The Village of Castilla

General Description: A large village that consists of a single street of minor local businesses, and several offshoots where the village members live.
Population: ~1200 humans
Size: Large village
Government: A small council (the Village Council) of 15 respected villagers help settle disputes that may arise. They also deal out punishment. If a major issue concerning the whole village arises, a village meeting may be called, where a representative from each farm or household may vote on the issue. These votes are called by the Village Council and those not in attendance simply forfeit their right to vote. These meetings tend to consist of about sixty to eighty representatives. This government is maintained by long tradition.
Defense: A small village militia of about 25 men guards the towns and occasionally act as enforcers for the Council’s decisions. None of them have armor, and for weapons they use forge hammers, axes, and pikes made by the local smithy.
Commerce: The villagers trade heavily amongst themselves, and also regularly with the traders that bring goods from nearby towns and villages. Common items that anyone might need are available. Simple weapons like daggers and clubs may be requested at the smithy, but have not been already made. If in need, one could find a shortbow for purchase.
-Shops: A tailor, a blacksmith, two inns/taverns, a butcher, a cobbler, a “general store” (items are come and go, what the shopkeeper has recently traded for, etc. Accepts coin and other items as payment.
Notable Locations: An small noble’s manor rests just outside of the village and has been abandoned for nearly two decades. The minor noble that used to administer the village died and a new one was never sent to replace him. Although the villagers have no idea as to why they were not sent a new noble, they have had no trouble to life without their lord.
Town Opinions: They greatly enjoy being free of paying the taxes the noble once imposed, but they remember the protection from bandits the noble’s garrison once offered and they wish the king had sent them another noble to replace the one they lost. Over the years the attacks from bandits have grown increasingly bad as more and more of them realize the town is unprotected by trained soldiers. It is for this reason that they eagerly offered our party of adventurers this position, although they are a conservative bunch who will not make anything official until they are sure their new protectors are good for the job.
